రాజీనామాకు బలమైన కారణం అదే: లంక చీఫ్ సెలక్టర్ జయసూర్య

హైదరాబాద్: శ్రీలంక క్రికెట్ జట్టు వరుస పరాభవాల నేపథ్యంలో ఆ జట్టు చీఫ్ సెలక్టర్ పదవికి సనత్ జయసూర్య రాజీనామా చేసిన సంగతి తెలిసిందే. జయసూర్యతో పాటు కమిటీ సభ్యులు రంజిత్‌ మదురసింఘే, రమేష్‌ కలువితరణ, అసంక గురుసిన్హా, ఎరిక్‌ ఉపషంతలతో కూడిన సెలక్షన్‌ ప్యానెల్‌ భారత్‌తో జరిగే ఎకైక టీ20 అనంతరం తప్పుకోనున్నట్టు బోర్డు వైస్‌ ‍ప్రెసిడెంట్‌ మోహన్‌ సిల్వా తెలిపారు.

వీరి రాజీనామాల్ని శ్రీలంక క్రికెట్ బోర్డు ఆమోదించాల్సి ఉంది. ఈ సెలెక్షన్ కమిటీ పదవీకాలం మే నెలలోనే ముగిసింది. కానీ మరో 6నెలల పొడిగింపు ఇచ్చారు. మరోవైపు, ఈ సెలక్షన్‌ కమిటీ రాజీనామా లేఖ అందించిందని శ్రీలంక క్రీడా శాఖ మంత్రి దయాశ్రీ జయశేకర ధృవీకరించారు. తన రాజీనామాకు గల కారణాలపై ఓ లేఖలో జయసూర్య స్పష్టంగా వివరణ ఇచ్చాడు.

ఇటీవల కాలంలో శ్రీలంక జట్టు వైఫల్యాల కంటే... ప్రత్యేకించి పల్లెకెలె వేదికగా జరిగిన మూడో వన్డేలో అక్కడి అభిమానుల ప్రవర్తించిన తీరు తనను తీవ్రంగా కలచివేసిందని లేఖలో జయసూర్య పేర్కొన్నాడు. తన సారథ్యంలోని శ్రీలంక క్రికెట్ సెలక్షన్ కమిటీ రాజీనామా చేయడం వెనుక బలమైన కారణాల్లో అదొకటని, బాగా బాధ కలిగించింది అదేనని ఆవేదన వ్యక్తం చేశాడు.

పల్లెకెలె వేదికగా ఆదివారం జరిగిన మూడో వన్డేలో జట్టు ఓటమిని జీర్ణించుకోలేని శ్రీలంక అభిమానులు తీవ్ర ఆగ్రహంతో మైదానంలోకి బాటిల్స్ విసిరిన సంగతి తెలిసిందే. దీంతో అంపైర్లు మ్యాచ్‌ను 35 నిమిషాల పాటు అంపైర్లు ఆటను తాత్కాలికంగా నిలిపివేశారు.

మ్యాచ్‌ నిలిచే సమయానికి 44 ఓవర్లకు టీమిండియా 4 వికెట్ల నష్టానికి 210 పరుగులు చేసింది. రోహిత్‌శర్మ(122), ధోని (61) పరుగులతో క్రీజులో ఉన్నారు. 'సొంత జట్టు ఆటగాళ్లపై అభిమానులు దాడిచేయడం చూస్తే తట్టు కోలేనంత బాధ కలిగింది. కళ్లలో నీళ్లు సుడులు తిరుగుతుండగా మేం అక్కడి నుంచి వెళ్లిపోయాం' అని జయసూర్య తన లేఖలో పేర్కొన్నాడు

Dear Sir,

I write this letter with great sadness in my heart as after long discussion with fellow selectors, we have unanimously decided to tender our resignation on September 7 2017.

As a player who has represented the country at all levels, and as a former captain and current chairman of selectors, last Sunday's incident at the grounds was the last straw. Cricket has been and will always be my life, so it was particularly painful to see our own fans attack our own players.

I acknowledge it has been a very disappointing year. However, just one year ago we beat Australia at home three-nil. This was an unforgettable moment. We have some very talented boys and I am sure in time they will take cricket to the heights that it once was. We will always be ready to help Sri Lanka cricket should the need arise.

The 1996 players always will think of the glory days with nostalgia. We would like to thank you sir for all the help and support extended to us. We would also like to thank the president and the board for the unwavering support that was extended to us.

Finally we would like to thank the team for giving us their best at all times. We go with our eyes full of tears but with our heads held high. To all the fans we say please have faith in the boys. They will deliver. To the boys we say: believe in your ability and believe in the fans. They will be with you ultimately. We believe we will keep to our vision and succeed as One team, One nation.
