The bowlers have produced a very good display with the ball, especially Jhye Richardson on debut, but recently it has been their batsmen that haven't backed them up. Beaten by a good bit of flight. Down the wicket and Richardson wasn't close to the pitch of the delivery. Big edge and Karunaratne settles under a simple catch. Australia will bowl tonight with a lead of 179 under their belt. Marnus Labuschagne and Travis Head were the two main stars with the bat while Patterson, on debut, added a handy 30 runs. This little session under lights is not going to be easy for the opening pair of Karunaratne and Thirimanne.

It has been a dominant affair from the first session until now. The only thing that didn't go their way was the coin toss and none of the batsmen were able to kick on after making starts. Both debutants contributed with bat and ball and they took to Test cricket like a duck to water. Pat Cummins continued his red hot form with 10 wickets in the match and a career best performance in the second innings.
On the other hand a lot of things for the Sri Lankan team to think about, mainly their batting performance. Neither innings was up to scratch and both times they had the best part of the day to bat. Another worry is the injury to Kumara which kept him from batting and also means he will have to leave the tour.
