  • This will be the first ever men’s ODI fixture between Sri Lanka and Oman; the Lions have lost just once amongst teams currently classified as associate nations of the ICC (vs Kenya, February 2003).
  • This will just be Oman’s second men’s ODI game against a full-member side, having won their only such previous game against Ireland in their last game (won by five wickets on 19 June 2023).
  • This will be Sri Lanka’s 11th men’s ODI game at the Queens Sports Club with the Lions winning seven of the eight completed games at the venue with the sole loss coming against India in May 2010.
  • Sri Lanka are currently on a three-game winning streak in men’s ODIs, the last time they won more games on the bounce was way back in November 2015 (a run of four games); Oman themselves are on a two-game winning run in men’s ODIs, they have only won more games on the trot than the current streak once from February 2020 to September 2021(a run of seven games).
  • Only India (26) among visiting teams have won more games in Zimbabwe than Sri Lanka (22); indeed of all teams to have played at least 10 ODI games in the country, Sri Lanka have a win percentage of 82% which is only behind South Africa’s (94%) and Pakistan’s (84%).
  • Since the beginning of 2021, Sri Lanka have scored 44% of their runs in men’s ODIs from boundaries, the second least of all full-member sides during the period (Bangladesh – 43%); Sri Lanka have scored 36.6% of their runs in the format from singles during the same period, only Bangladesh (38%) and Pakistan (37%) have scored more such runs in the same period.
  • Oman bowlers have a dot ball percentage of 74% while bowling in the Powerplay phase (Overs 1-10) of the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers, only Scotland (78%) of all teams participating in the competition have a higher rate than the Asians, although the Europeans have played just one game until now this season.
  • Oman have a catch success rate of 75% in the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifiers, only Ireland (100%) and United Arab Emirates (83%) have a better such rate than Oman among all the participating teams in the competition.
  • Aqib Ilyas (917 runs) is 83 away from becoming the third Oman batter after Jatinder Singh (1158 runs) and Zeeshan Maqsood (1081 runs) to get to 1000 run landmark in men’s ODI cricket; indeed, Ilyas (57.3) is the only Omani batter to average more than 50 in the format; he has registered 50+ scores in each of his last two innings.
  • Kusal Mendis (99 matches) is set to become the 29th Sri Lankan player to appear in 100 men’s ODI games; he (2832 runs) is indeed 168 runs away from becoming just the 18th Lankan batter to get to 3000 run landmark in the format.
