Wrapping up - That brings an end to a thrilling double-header packed with runs, as Dindigul Dragons and Chepauk Super Gillies came away with impressive wins over SKM Salem Spartans and Siechem Madurai Panthers, respectively. The results also saw the Spartans become the first team to be eliminated, while the Panthers’ defeat means there are now no unbeaten sides left in the competition. The action continues at the NPR College Ground, where Nellai Royal Kings take on Trichy Grand Cholas on Saturday, August 15. The game gets underway at 2 pm GMT (7.30 pm IST), but make sure you join us early for all the build-up. Until then, cheers and goodbye!
Chepauk bowlers hit their stride - Chepauk Super Gillies had the runs on the board and then backed it up with a superb bowling effort. Swapnil Singh set the tone in the Powerplay with a couple of wickets, while Abhishek Tanwar chipped in with one as the Gillies kept the pressure on. Skipper Narayan Jagadeesan rotated his options smartly and almost every bowler stepped up, with Prem Kumar striking twice in the middle overs. M Vignesh and TD Lokesh Raj also picked up a wicket each, while M Silambarasan was trusted with just the final over and M. Mohana Prasath was not needed at all, underlining the depth in this Gillies attack and suggesting they are hitting top gear at just the right time.
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - RS Mokit Hariharan wins the award for his outstanding knock of 108 off 50 balls.
SMP bowlers blown away - Earlier in the game, Chepauk Super Gillies had put on a batting masterclass, with RS Mokit Hariharan’s brilliant 108 off 50 leading the charge, while Narayan Jagadeesan’s 79 helped the pair add a massive 169 for the opening wicket. Siechem Madurai Panthers’ bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught, with Gurjapneet Singh’s economical spell and Ganeshan Periyaswamy’s two wickets among the few positives as the Gillies’ batters had dominated from start to finish.
Debutant V Hari Ragavendra wages lone battle - Siechem Madurai Panthers never got the start they needed in such a daunting chase, with Ram Kumar’s quick cameo failing to turn into anything substantial. They reached 50 in the Powerplay but had already lost three wickets, leaving them on the back foot early. As the asking rate climbed, wickets continued to tumble, but debutant V Hari Ragavendra stood tall amid the chaos, waging a lone battle and bringing up a maiden fifty. With little support around him, he carried the fight deep before agonisingly falling two runs short of a hundred on 98. A star may well have been unearthed here.
Gillies complete hat-trick wins - Chepauk Super Gillies have made it three wins in a row with a dominant display to sign off the Dindigul leg in style. They head into their home leg with momentum firmly on their side, while the victory also lifts them into the top four and makes them the first side to defeat Siechem Madurai Panthers this season. For the Panthers, it is a rare stumble in what has otherwise been an excellent campaign, and they will hope this remains just a blip rather than the start of a slide.
OUT! RAGAVENDRA IS RUN OUT! Heartbreaking end for the youngster, but Siechem Madurai Panthers have found a gem here. Chepauk Super Gillies win by 39 runs. M Silambarasan darts in a yorker, on off. V Hari Ragavendra gets across but jams it back to the bowler. He tries to take the run, but Silambarasan takes aim and hits the stumps at the bowler's end, finding the batter short of his crease. The CSG players are showing good spirit, patting the youngster, and everyone present at the ground appreciates the effort for his amazing knock
Gurjapneet Singh has done his job! Quicker, full and on off, Singh drives it to the left of the bowler and sets off for the run. M Silambarasan makes a half-stop, then tries to pick it up and hits the wickets but by then Singh has dragged his bat in. Can V Hari Ragavendra get his hundred on the last ball?
Fires in a yorker, on middle, Gurjapneet Singh can only dig it back to the bowler. V Hari Ragavendra is still stranded at 98 on the other end.
Floated, full and around off, V Hari Ragavendra pushes it through covers for a run. He moves to 98 now. Also, 200 up for Siechem Madurai Panthers!
Flatter, full and on leg, Gurjapneet Singh misses his flick as the ball goes off his pads to short fine. Leg bye taken.
1 run, this time the batter goes back and punches it from the crease for a run.
M Silambarasan will bowl the final over.
Wide yorker, outside off, Gurjapneet Singh fails to get any bat on that one.
SIX! Connects this time! Slower again, full and on middle, Gurjapneet Singh stretches out in front and tonks it over the bowler's head for a biggie.
Change of pace, full and on off, Gurjapneet Singh swings early and misses.
No run, the batter looks to play that but is comprehensively beaten.
1 run, the pull shot comes into play. One run taken.
MISFIELD AND FOUR! Fuller one and on middle, V Hari Ragavendra slogs it away towards deep mid-wicket. The fielder gets into two minds whether to save the boundary or go for the catch, but in the end he yorks himself as the ball goes through for a boundary.
M Vignesh will bowl the penultimate over.
Full and angling into leg, Gurjapneet Singh flicks it to deep mid-wicket and comes back for the second run.
Follows the batter with an excellent yorker, tailing into leg. It goes past Gurjapneet Singh even before he gets his bat down.
Another full toss, outside off, V Hari Ragavendra slices it towards long off for one.
Full toss, on leg, tailing in, Gurjapneet Singh tries to slog but gets an inside edge towards deep fine for a run.
Yorker, around off, V Hari Ragavendra squeezes it out to short third, where a fumble allows a single. He moves into the 90s now.
Fuller and outside off, angling away, V Hari Ragavendra gets down and across to swipe it away but misses.
1 run, the cover drive is played for a run.
Wide! Tries the wide yorker, but splls it way outside off, V Hari Ragavendra cannot reach it. Wided.
FOUR! Shot of the highest order! Low full toss, outside off. V Hari Ragavendra does not try to hit it too hard, just caresses it between extra cover and mid off for a boundary.
SIX! Way into the stands! TD Lokesh Raj bangs this into the pitch, on middle, not short enough. V Hari Ragavendra takes it on with a pull shot and whacks it over the deep square leg fence for half a dozen more.
