Two done, one left - India have bossed up the T20I series with a game to spare, leading by 2-0. It was a far sharper performance from the hosts, who proved too hot to handle for the Lady Chevrons. For Nkomo and her group, there is little to lose and plenty to learn from taking on one of the top-ranked sides in the world. Moving into the next one, Zimbabwe will want to improve in every department, but above all, their batting needs to click as a unit, with contributions across the order rather than one or two players carrying the load. The third and final T20I will be played in Raipur itself, on Tuesday, 20th October. The first ball is scheduled to be bowled at 1.30 pm GMT (7 pm IST). But our build-up begins in advance, so do join for that as well. Until then, we signoff from here. CIAO!
PLAYER OF THE MATCH - Shafali Verma takes home the award for her blistering 55 off just 25 balls, which included six fours and four towering sixes. Starts by saying that the shots she is trying to hit are coming off, and she is just happy she could execute them. She admits she couldn’t sleep after the way she got out in the last game. Falling to an off-spinner as a right-hander was not the right way to go, she says, so today she tried to bend a little, time the ball better and take a single when a boundary wasn’t on. When asked about her favorite shot of the day, she points to the one she hit off the cover against the pacers in the second or third over, which gave her a lot of confidence. She also speaks about her long-term work. Details that when she was back home in 2025, she sat down and thought about what she could improve, and consistency stood out. She adds that she studied the Australian batters to see what they were doing to get better.
The victorious Indian captain - Smriti Mandhana is all smiles as she walks up to have a chat with Anjum Chopra. Calls it a good outing, singling out the bowlers, who were right on the mark. They were far better than in the first game, she says, executing the slower balls and yorkers really well. She singles out Deepti, Shree and Niki, with Niki striking twice on her bowling debut. She does see room to improve in the field, though. Admits that their catching could have been better today, and that is something India can criticise themselves for. On the plan to bowl fuller, she explains that the team discussed it after the first game, having seen Zimbabwe bat. Adds that the plans only work if you execute them, and today the bowlers did. On the chase, Mandhana says Shafali was doing her thing, hitting hard in the Powerplay, and she was happy to hand her the strike. Notes that she took on her own chances when they came, and that is the brand of cricket India loves to play and will keep playing.
The captain of Zimbabwe Women - Josephine Nkomo reflects on the defeat. She begins by admitting that it was a batting masterclass by the Indian openers. Humbly says that her side could only stand and applaud, and there was no better place to watch that carnage from. The main difference, in her view, was the start. Details that Zimbabwe did not get off to a good Powerplay. She hopes the side can lay a good foundation in the next game so the bowlers are not exposed. On areas to improve before the last T20I, she repeats that Zimbabwe should watch how India batted. If they can take a leaf out of that book, she says, it will do them good.
... The post-match Presentation ...
Clinical with the ball - After choosing to bat first, Zimbabwe could only muster 103. India's bowling was disciplined from start to finish, and Niki Prasad made a dream bowling debut, striking with her first two balls in international cricket. Gaud, Nandani, Deepti and Shree Charani all chipped in with wickets as well to keep the Chevrons ladies at bay. Mugeri-Tiripano and captain Josephine Nkomo were the only Zimbabwe batters to reach double figures, adding 45 for the fifth wicket. Nkomo stayed unbeaten but kept losing partners in the second half of the innings, and the total never really took off.
The openers got the job done - India were reduced to 19/4 chasing 115 in the first T20I, with the top order crushed, but this time openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma made sure there were no hiccups at all. They unleashed a stream of eye-pleasing shots and never let the Chevrons catch their breath. Shafali was at her best, scoring a scintillating half-century as India smashed half the runs of the chase inside the Powerplay itself. Verma eventually fell, but Mandhana, who looked at her fluent best, finished the job with aplomb. In the end, it came down to the boundaries. Zimbabwe managed only 13 fours and no sixes, while India hit 12 fours and six towering sixes on their way to chasing down 104. That's 84 runs in boundaries alone, which says plenty about how the two sides approached the contest.
Women in Blue crush the Chevrons - A job done clinically by the hosts and they have won the three-match T20I series, leading it 2-0 now. The Smriti Mandhana era is off to a commanding start, and this is India's 10th straight win in the shortest format, capping what is already their most successful year in T20Is. This is their 17th win out of 26 T20Is so far in 2026. Plenty for Zimbabwe to ponder, though. They pushed India into deep waters in the opening T20I, but this time they were blown away and outclassed in every department.
SIX! Done and dusted in some style by the captain. She has made that shot look so easy on the eyes. INDIA WIN BY 9 WICKETS AND 67 BALLS TO SPARE! Nicely tossed up, wide outside off. Mandhana jumps down the track, gets right underneath it and swings through the line. It pings right off the middle of the bat, and soars over the wide long off fence for a six.
Full again, outside off, Sharma drives it to long off for a run.
Full ball, on middle and leg, Anushka stabs it to mid on.
Around off on a length, knocked gently to mid off.
A bit full and outside off, Smriti works it down to long off for a single.
This should be the final over of the game. India need 7 runs to win.
Spins on the leg stump, on a good length. Anushka rocks back and nudges it to the mid-wicket fielder.
Anushka Sharma is in at number 3.
OUT! CAUGHT! Fifty and out for Verma. But she has done her job for her side. Tossed up on the stumps, 72.2 kph, and Shafali dances down the track to launch it over long on, but she mistimes it and the ball doesn’t carry the distance. It goes up plenty high, and Tendai Makusha, waiting on the boundary, moves to her right and takes a very good catch on the second attempt. That ends a scintillating knock from Shafali. India Women are 96/1, needing just 7 runs to win.
SIX! That has got a flight number attached to it. FIFTY FOR SHAFALI VERMA! From just 24 balls, and that's her 22nd T20I half-century. This is Shafali at her very best. She reads the fuller one early and skips out of the crease before unleashing a muscly heave over deep mid-wicket for a massive six.
At 78 kph, this is landed on a length, on middle, Mandhana plays the 'Nataraja' shot to deep mid-wicket for a single.
Short and on off, Verma waits back and drags it to long on for a single.
Shortish delivery, around off, Mandhana rocks back and punches it wide of long off for a single.
India need just 16 runs to win. They will be looking to get the job done in the next couple of overs and keeping all wickets intact. Beloved Biza is into the attack now.
Fuller ball, on off, pushed away to long off for an easy single.
SIX! WOWZA! Dropped on a fullish length, in front of the sticks. Smriti Mandhana picks the length early, dances down the track and magically powers it over deep mid-wicket for a cracking six. That's gone 85 meters away.
An in-dipper, full on middle, Shafali advances down the track and yorks herself. Perhaps looks for a big shot but ends up carving the ball down to long on for a single.
Back to around the stump. It is a length-delivery on the leg stump, Smriti takes a step across and whips it to deep mid-wicket for another single.
Shortens the length from over the stump, outside off, Verma backs away and punches it to deep extra cover for an easy single.
Pushed fuller on middle and leg from around the stumps, Smriti neatly drives it to long on for a single.
End of the Powerplay. India are just 27 runs adrift of sealing the series. Olinder Chare is brought into the attack now.
Beaten! Comes from around the stump and lands it on a good length, angling across the right-hander. Shafali tries to guide it to the off side behind square but misses. India have smashed 76 runs in the Powerplay itself.
